The 13th Çanakkale Bicycle Tour Martyrs Respect Ride, organized by Çanakkale Bicycle Platform (ÇABİP) to commemorate martyrs and veterans within the scope of Çanakkale Culture Road Festival events in Eceabat district of ÇANAKKALE, started with the participation of 500 athletes from all over Turkey. Athletes will pedal a total of 48 kilometers in the event.
500 athletes from all over Turkey participated in the 13th Çanakkale Bicycle Tour Martyrs’ Respect Ride organized in front of the Namazgah Bastions in Kilitbahir village of the district. Bicycle enthusiasts gathered in front of the Namazgah Bastion and observed a minute of silence in memory of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms and all martyrs, and sang the National Anthem. Later, with the start given, athletes began the 48-kilometer respect ride for martyrs and veterans. Athletes will reach Şahindere Martyrs’ Cemetery from in front of Kilitbahir Castle, and then reach Çanakkale Martyrs’ Memorial via Alçıtepe village. The course will continue on the same route and end at the starting point.
Speaking at the event, Çanakkale Wars Gallipoli Historical Site President İsmail Kaşdemir said, “As bicycle lovers, we sincerely thank you for not leaving these lands alone. This is not just a sport or a social event, it is an indication of your values and commitment to these lands. I am sure that during your bike ride today, every time you pedal, you will think of those who made these lands our homeland. Every time you pedal, I am sure that you will think of how we founded our republic, how we saved these lands. Every time you pedal, I am sure that you will think of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Corporal Seyit, Cevat Pasha, their heroic comrades-in-arms. That is why we, as the Historical Site Presidency, look after these exceptional lands like our own eyes. But these beautiful lands, these exceptional places become even more beautiful with you. You are here every year, I thank you very much. That is why, once again, in your presence, I would like to thank those who made these lands our homeland, those who founded our republic, those who saved this country, Gazi Mustafa Kemal “We remember Atatürk and his comrades with mercy and gratitude. I would like to express my happiness to meet in this beautiful atmosphere and this beautiful place on the last day of the Çanakkale leg of the Cultural Routes Festival organized by our Ministry of Culture and Tourism within the scope of the Cultural Routes Festival,” he said.
