Residents of the Cabana do Pai Tomás neighborhood, in the western region of Belo Horizonte, protested, in the early evening of this Monday (8/1), in Avenida Amazonas, against the death of a 20-year-old young man. Edgar Coelho, known as Riquinho, died this Sunday (7/1).

On social media, residents claim that the young man was the victim of an execution by the military. In one post, a young woman who identifies herself as a friend of Edgar says that during the action the soldiers still pretended that the victim was armed.
In the early evening of this Monday (8/1), dozens of residents protested against the action. He wears white T-shirts that read “Justice for Edgar Riquinho. Favela calls for peace,” protesters closed both directions of Avenida Amazonas, near the Vila Alegre neighborhood.
“The military police of Minas Gerais invaded the home of the 20-year-old young man, executed him and robbed him of a weapon. His family asks for help to protest. The police paid to protect society are killing community residents. How long will we accept it? – writes a friend of Riquinho.
The report sought out the Military Police to clarify the allegations made by the residents, but as of the publication of this article there was no response. According to the incident report, the young man was approached by Rotam teams while carrying a firearm. After receiving the order to stop, he reacted by exchanging gunfire with the police. He would have been saved, but he did not survive his injuries.
Burnt bus
At a certain point during the demonstration, near Bairro Vista Alegre, a public bus was set on fire. According to the firefighters, there were no injuries. So far there was no information on the people involved in the crime.
In the same avenue, another collective, this time metropolitan, was also set on fire. This time the accident was recorded at Bairro Gameleira, 900 meters from the first. There are also no reports of injuries.
