The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stressed that the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian civilian airports constitute a threat to peace and security in the region and the world, calling on the United Nations, the Security Council and its other competent bodies to assume their responsibilities in condemning and stopping these attacks and ensuring that they are not repeated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement received by SANA today: “At around 4:50 pm yesterday, Sunday, the Israeli occupation forces launched an air aggression with missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting Damascus International Airport and some areas in the Damascus countryside, which led to the airport being put out of service again, only hours after it was re-operated and air traffic resumed to and from it, as well as disrupting the humanitarian work of the United Nations by stopping its humanitarian air services in Syria.”
The ministry added: “This cowardly Israeli aggression, which targeted a Syrian civilian facility whose primary purpose is to serve citizens who are forced by their circumstances, as is the case all over the world, to travel outside their countries, comes during the last two months in connection with the brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip, which can only be considered a war crime and a crime against humanity. Moreover, these repeated attacks on Syrian civilian airports constitute a threat to peace and security in the region and the world, and a flagrant violation of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement and Security Council resolutions, including resolutions 242, 338 and 497.”
The ministry stressed that “this hysterical aggression comes within the framework of the efforts of the troubled occupation authorities to escalate the situation in the region and continue the policy of escaping forward to cover up their crimes, defeats and failure to achieve the goals they declared for their brutal aggression on Gaza, despite committing the most heinous war crimes, crimes against humanity, acts of genocide and their deliberate war on population centers, hospitals, schools and places of worship, which led to the loss of the lives of more than 14,500 Palestinian civilians, most of whom were children and women, in addition to killing 103 UNRWA staff and dozens of other humanitarian and relief workers, along with dozens of journalists and media professionals who documented the crimes of the Zionist entity and highlighted once again its brutal reality before the United Nations, the Security Council and world public opinion, despite the efforts of the occupation authorities and their sponsors to cover it up.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the United Nations, the Security Council and its other competent bodies to assume their responsibilities in condemning and stopping these attacks, ensuring that they are not repeated, and curbing the unbridled Israeli aggression and killing machine, stressing the need to implement the relevant UN resolutions in a way that guarantees ending the occupation and stopping Israel’s crimes against the people of the occupied Arab territories in Palestine, the Syrian Golan and southern Lebanon.
The ministry concluded by saying: “Syria warns the Israeli entity of the consequences of these attacks on Syria, Palestine and southern Lebanon, and it will see that it will pay the price for its foolishness and recklessness.”
