The renowned ghazal singer from India passed away on Monday at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness.
According to India newspaper Times of India, the singer’s daughter Nayab Adhaas announced his death on the social media platform Instagram. Padma Shri awardee Pankaj Udhas played an important role in the development of Indian cinema and pop music. He has left behind a wonderful legacy of music.
His songs ‘Chithi Ai Hai’, ‘Chandi Jesa Rang Hai Tera’ and ‘Ne Kajre Ki Dhar’ became very popular.
His daughter wrote on her Instagram post, “It is with great sadness that we announce that Pankaj Adhas passed away on February 26, 2024 after a long illness.”
Pinkanj Udhas shot to fame in 1980 with his ghazal album ‘Ahat’ which was followed by more albums titled Tarnam, Kamar and Mahfil. He also sang two songs from the film Ghail in 1990 with singer Lata Mangeshkar.

According to Indian newspaper The Hindu, as soon as Pankaj Udhas’ daughter Nayab shared the news of the singer’s death, a large number of his fans expressed their condolences in the comments section. May his soul rest in peace, wrote a fan. Another user wrote: ‘I am so sorry to hear about your loss, please bear with me and accept my condolences.’ Another user wrote: ‘Heartfelt condolences and prayers.’
According to Pankaj Udhas’ family, the legendary singer breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital around 11 am. His last rites will be performed on Tuesday. Pankaj is survived by wife Farida Udhas, daughters Nayab and Reva Udhas and brothers Nirmal and Munhar Udhas.
