Reio Komatsu “There is no need to doubt Gene Haas’ commitment to F1″[F1-Gate.com]

Reio Komatsu, who has been appointed as the new team principal of the Haas F1 Team, says there is no need to doubt Gene Haas’ commitment to F1 despite a number of changes within the team.

Reio Komatsu was only promoted to team principal in 2024 after Haas chose not to renew the contract with Günter Steiner, who coached the team for eight years after joining F1.

The Haas F1 Team also parted ways with technical director Simone Resta after a season in which they finished last in the constructors’ championship.

Haas is in the process of hiring a Europe-based chief operating officer (COO) to ease the on-track workload for new team principal Reio Komatsu.

As rivals such as AlphaTauri, Williams and Sauber make investments, Andretti attempts to enter F1 and owner Gene Haas’ commitment to F1 is called into question, but Reio Komatsu I’m denying it.

“You know how unhappy Gene was,” Reio Komatsu said. “Of course, who can be happy fighting for last place? It’s embarrassing.”

“I think it’s a good thing that Gene is unhappy with the way things are. Everybody on the team says, ‘OK, we’re at the bottom. We don’t know where we’re going from here,’ and Gene’s not happy with the way things are going. In case otherwise, is Gene content to simply add up the numbers and be number 10? Clearly that’s not the case. In fact, that’s what motivates everyone here. Gene is serious about leading the team. We want to make it better. It’s like we’re doing it together .”

“Gene is definitely serious, otherwise he wouldn’t have made this move, this change of direction. It’s an important thing for him too.”

“You know, Gunther helped get the team back on track. So what he did, the decisions he made, if he wasn’t dedicated, why did he do it?”

Reio Komatsu, who joined the Haas F1 Team in 2016, is still evaluating various departments and traveled to Italy on Wednesday to meet with the Maranello-based department.

Reio Komatsu stressed that he is confident that Haas can get better results from the current structure.

“We have really good people, talented people, some of the best people I’ve seen in F1 in the last 20 years. We have really good people,” Reio Komatsu said.

“It’s about integrating it and communicating and working for each other. That’s why I firmly believe we can achieve this. If we do that, I think we can get a lot better.”
