Regulations that allow students to obtain degrees continue

MEXICO CITY, Mexico.- In Cuba, the regulations that allow students to access university degrees without taking an exam or passing entrance tests remain in force.

The Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba (MES) reported that this year the decision to grant places to those who have failed or who have not even taken the exams will also govern.

The MINED wrote on its social networks that “there are careers and higher technicians for all young people who wish to enter the University.”

“This process is carried out automatically and will be published in each center,” reported the MES.

For the assignment of places, those who took the entrance tests, held in the month of March, will first be considered.

Secondly, a re-offer will be made for those approved who do not want the degree they obtained. In a third stage, the applications of those disapproved will be made.

Subsequently, those disapproved who did not obtain places in the previous process may request one.

Then, several stages cover students who did not take the exams and those from other levels of education.

Thus, eight assignment stages will be completed until all the courses offered are covered.

Although he said that the granting process did not imply “a loss of the quality of the graduate,” the system has received numerous criticisms for the level of permissiveness in which anyone can obtain a degree, a student who has made an effort in his academic career and one no.

“Within the universities, our faculty assumes the responsibility of satisfying the training gaps that may exist among students,” said the minister, downplaying the issue.
