Regime “temporarily” interrupts gasoline sales

MADRID, Spain.- The state company Cimex announced this Thursday a temporary interruption in the sale of fuel in its service centers starting this March 1.

The measure, “justified” by the price change, adds to the already difficult energy situation that Cubans face.

“The sale of fuel will be stopped in all Cimex service centers. This interruption is necessary to carry out the procedures required to modify prices,” Cimex said on its social networks.

The statement indicates that the restoration of fuel sales will be carried out gradually in each of the service centers, as these procedures are completed.

Authorities of the Cuban regime reported this Wednesday, at a press conference, that the great economic package announced at the end of 2023, and then postponed, would come into force this March 1.

The plan includes an increase of more than 500% in the price of fuel in the country, as well as the new electricity rate for high consumers, said the ministers of Finance and Prices, Energy and Mines, the vice minister of Economy and Planning and the vice president of Cimex.

The rates announced by the regime in January indicate that from this date B83 motor gasoline will rise from 20CUP to 114 per liter, or 0.94 dollars; the regular B90, from 25 to 132CUP or 1.10 dollars; the special B94, from 30 to 156, or $1.30; the special B100, from 37.50 to 198CUP, or 1.65 dollars; regular diesel, from 25 to 132 pesos or 1.10 dollars, and special diesel from 27.50 to 150CUP or 1.25 dollars.

On January 31, one day before the measures came into force, the Cuban authorities announced the postponement of the increase in fuel prices and their sale in foreign currency through the network of service centers due, presumably, to a cybersecurity accident. in computer systems for marketing.
