MEXICO CITY, Mexico.- The Cuban regime censored a Rap concert, which was to take place on May 25 at the Fellini private bar, in the Playa municipality, Havana.
The presentation, which was part of the Forma tu Bulla Festival, was canceled at the last minute, as the owners of the establishment informed the artists.
“The decision, which prevented the participation of the rappers from the project Compendio Soandry HDC and NavyPro, in addition to Elokuente, among other artists,” was communicated to the owner of Bar Fellini, one of the organizers of the event, according to a complaint from the D’Frente coalition.
According to the information, the National Police located one of their patrols near the bar.
Rapper Soandry Del Río exposed Cuban Diary that they were able to verify that State Security was behind the act of censorship.
With it, Del Río, Osvaldo Navarro (Navy Pro) and René Díaz (Elokuente), among other artists, were unable to offer their concert.
Del Río shared other details with the independent media and argued that it was about the implementation of Decree Law 349: “It is the same old story, 349, more of the same.”
In his testimony, he said that one of his friends, who works in post-production, overheard a conversation where it was said that State Security had ordered the activity to be canceled on the third day of the festival. “That day, without discussion, it could not be done because there were people invited who could not appear and could not sing,” he said.
Osvaldo Navarro, on the other hand, confirmed that one of the organizers asked the owner of the bar, “What explanation do I give to the artists?”, and the owner replied: “Tell them that a cable broke.”
This singer, a member of the Citizens Committee for Racial Integration (CIR), has suffered harassment from the Cuban regime for his activism.
Decree 349 of 2018 is “a Gag Law that limits the freedom of expression and creation of Cuban artists through the figure of the supervisor-inspector—or directly by State Security agents,” D’Frente said in your statement.
“Introducing the force of censorship in the world of art, a world that must above all be a kingdom of spontaneity, is a continued assault on freedom, a persecution of politically uncomfortable content and an attack on the right of citizens to know other realities different from those of official Cuban institutions,” he stated.
