Slovakia often loses to Canada, but when they manage to beat them in a big match, it is remembered for years. The most memorable wins came in the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
Who could forget Bondro’s goals in Gothenburg 2002 or Michal Handzuš’s winning run in Helsinki 2012?
In the first case, the Slovaks won 3:2, in the second 4:3, and in both cases they went to the final.
Both countries will meet in the elimination part of the World Cup for the first time in twelve years, the first time since Handzuš’s run.
During the era of Craig Ramsay, the Canadian coach of the Slovak team, they met three times at the World Championships, but each time only in the group. Canada always won, but twice only by a goal.
“Everyone favors Canada even now. And it may sound crazy, but I believe we can win. If we play our hockey,” Ramsay said.
The match between Slovakia and Canada in the quarterfinals of the World Cup is scheduled for Thursday, May 23 at 4:20 p.m. in Prague’s O2 arena.

He admitted that he will speak together with Tatar in front of the whole team before the match.
