The identity of the referee of the match between Vietnam and the Philippines on June 6 has been determined.
According to the assignment of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), referee Hanna Hattab (Syria) was in charge of the match between Vietnam and the Philippines on June 6. Previously, the Syrian referee was assigned to control two matches of “Golden Star Warriors” at My Dinh Stadium.
Specifically, Mr. Hanna Hattab held the whistle in the match Vietnam lost 0-1 to Saudi Arabia and the match Vietnam lost 0-1 to Oman. Although the home team lost both matches that Mr. Hattab officiated, the Syrian referee was still considered fair with his decisions in the match.
Mr. Hanna Hattab started his refereeing career in 2018. After 7 years, he has refereed a total of 9 matches, all in the AFC system and World Cup Qualifiers in Asia. In early 2024, he officiated the U23 Asia quarterfinal match between U23 Qatar and U23 Japan. In that match, Japan U23 won 4-2 to win the championship.
His 3 assistant referees in this match were all from Syria, including: assistant referee Mohamad Kazzaz, assistant referee Ahmad and fourth referee Mohammed Kanah.
The Vietnamese team will gather on June 1. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team have 5 days to prepare for the reception of the Philippine team, which will take place at 7:00 p.m. on June 6.
This is coach Kim Sang-sik’s team debut match. Therefore, fans are hoping that the Vietnam National Team can win, thereby raising hopes of qualifying for the 3rd round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
