Rangers should be given operational powers across Sindh: MQM

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM), an ally of the federal government and the opposition party in the Sindh Assembly, has on Sunday demanded that the Rangers be given operational powers in the entire province of Sindh to establish law and order.

MQM made this demand in a press conference today, where Senator Faisal Sabzwari said that the Federal Interior Minister should come to Karachi and sit with the Sindh Chief Minister and review the situation.

He said that the police should rein in the criminal elements instead of ‘Idi Collection’.

Khawaja Izharul Hasan demanded in the press conference that ‘Rangers should be given powers for operations in the whole of Sindh, as soon as the elected government comes, the accused are killing people for a few thousand (rupees) mobile phones.’

Khawaja Izhar added that his party was constantly raising its voice regarding the situation in Karachi.

Talking about the appointment of IG Sindh, he alleged that the provincial government blackmailed the Pakistan Muslim League (N) to appoint a person of its choice.

An IG, a home minister and a chief minister of your choice were appointed. From Karachi to Kashmore, it seems like there is a wave of joy among the dacoits in the slums, they are celebrating.’

He said that after the appointment of IG Sindh, Interior Minister and Sindh Chief Minister, they (robbers) have been given license to kill.

“People are angry and resisting now – they are not afraid, they are fighting bandits and losing their lives,” he said.

Dozens of citizens have been killed in the city of Karachi for resisting robberies this year, while citizens have been deprived of mobile phones, motorcycles and cash in the increasing number of robberies.
