AREQUIPA, Peru – Ramona de Saá Bello, a renowned Cuban figure in dance pedagogy in the contemporary world, died this Wednesday in the early hours of the morning at the age of 84.
A report from the official media Cubadebateyou do not detail the causes of death, although it indicates that Saa Bello’s remains will be cremated by decision of his family.
Saá Bello was a disciple of Alicia Alonso and for a long time director of the Fernando Alonso National Ballet School (ENB), as well as an adjunct professor at the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) and Methodologist at the National Center of Art Schools (CNEArt).
The pedagogue won the title of Honorary Doctor of Art in 2000 and the National Prize for Artistic Teaching in 2002, in recognition of her career which linked her to 45 years of teaching ballet in Cuba.
Born in Havana on July 23, 1939, de Saá Bello was the creator of the current dance teaching system in Cuba. She studied at the Alicia Alonso Academy and was a founding dancer of the National Ballet of Cuba, becoming one of its main figures along with Loipa Araujo, Mirta Plá, Josefina Méndez, Aurora Bosch and Margarita de Saa.
Under the direction of Fernando Alonso he founded the Ballet School in which the new promotions of Cuban dancers were trained.
Ramona de Saá Bello was the promoter and founder of the ISA Dance Art program, she directed the work of developing the first plans and study programs for the ballet profile, serving as its first teacher in Teaching Methodology of this manifestation.
When the Ministry of Culture was created, the National Methodologist of the Directorate of Artistic Education (current CNEArt) was appointed.
It developed its activity in countries such as Argentina, Bulgaria, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Spain and Venezuela; He was a member of the Dance Art Career Commission and the Scientific Council of this high house of studies.
