As part of the digital transformation being developed by the Government of El Salvador, the Office of the first lady, Gabriela de Bukele, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, launched today the Breastfeeding website.

It is a digital tool to bring Salvadoran families closer to the processes and services around breastfeeding.

The coordinator of Health and Nutrition Projects of the Office of the first lady, Elisa Gamero, highlighted the actions that have led the country to become a country that encourages and supports breastfeeding and also protects it.

«It is a day of celebration because we are going to share a tool that we have been working on with a lot of love, commitment and dedication since we launched the Love Converted into Food law. Not only this website, but all the actions that we have been carrying out with the institutions of the National Integrated Health System under the leadership of the Ministry of Health as the governing body, will allow us to transform El Salvador and turn it into a country that not only encourages, supports, but also protects breastfeeding,” said Gamero.

The link to access the website is https://www.salud.gob.sv/. In this you can find: the Love Converted into Food Law, authorization of educational material, location of the Breastfeeding Rooms, information to train as Breastfeeding Counselors and how to donate breast milk. Likewise, the population will be able to submit requests related to Breastfeeding and a response will be provided in a timely manner.

For her part, the representative of UNICEF El Salvador, Victoria Colamarco, highlighted the work of the Government of El Salvador to promote breastfeeding, and the support that the entity has given the country to create strategies that contribute to the process, such as lactation rooms.

He indicated that breastfeeding is a public health strategy that reduces the probability of overweight and obesity in the future, in addition to being of high value in the development of children.

«We congratulate the Government of El Salvador, which, through the leadership of the first lady of the republic, has brought these results to light with the help of the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, and we congratulate them for the coordinated and articulated work of the Integrated National Health System that has multiplied breastfeeding efforts in the country that allow children to have the best start in life,” Colamarco stated.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, explained that, as part of the actions developed, there are trained and specialized personnel in breastfeeding who provide support to mothers and their families in the process.

«This page will greatly facilitate the topics of regulatory documents, information related to the Love Converted into Food Law so that people can inform themselves, online application forms to obtain authorization of contents of regulations of the law; user support sections, all in the palm of your hand. Giant steps are being taken in the country,” said Alabi.

The site has been designed to offer the population the best user experience, with improved navigation, functionality and ease of access. This site responds to the digital transformation that the government is carrying out, it is one more step for El Salvador to become a pro-breastfeeding country, with the commitment and involvement of all sectors.
