RAHUL DRAVID: Rahul Dravid got a great farewell

RAHUL DRAVID :It was the perfect farewell for Indian head coach Rahul Dravid as the Men in Blue defeated South Africa in a thrilling encounter to lift the T20 World Cup after a gap of 17 years on Saturday. The seven-run win also ended India’s 11-year wait for an International Cricket Council (ICC) title. Despite all his achievements, Dravid has eluded a World Cup medal.
He was part of the Indian team that finished second to Australia in the 2003 ODI World Cup final in South Africa. Dravid, who became India’s coach in late 2021 after the T20 World Cup debacle, led India to two major finals last year. However, Australia came out on top on both occasions – in the World Test Championship final and in the ODI World Cup. It was third time lucky for Dravid and his boys at the Kensington Oval.
Dravid finally got his hands on the World Cup trophy and he celebrated by raising the silverware high. Dravid had a successful partnership with captain Rohit Sharma and this victory was the result of that. Under Dravid’s leadership, India could not progress beyond the group stage in the Caribbean ODI World Cup in 2007. Now Dravid is leaving the Caribbean shores with the satisfaction that he is the coach who won the World Cup. His former captain and former BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly included Dravid in the team in place of Ravi Shastri for this very purpose. ‘The Wall’ has contributed in making the Indian team the world champion.
