Rafael Dudamel predicts how far Colombia will go in the Copa América

In interview with Kienyke.com, Rafael Dudamel, champion coach of Colombian professional soccer with Atlético Bucaramanga, offered a profound and optimistic perspective on the possibilities of the Colombia selection in the next Copa América.

The Venezuelan coach showed great optimism regarding Colombia’s performance in the Copa América. He stressed the quality of the team led by Néstor Lorenzo and the importance of bringing joy to the entire country through football.

“Football unites, the national team unites… the only color that will prevail at this time of the Copa América is yellow,” he stated. Dudamelhighlighting football’s ability to generate a sense of unity and national pride.

Dudamel compared the Copa América to a “mini World Cup” due to the high level of the players who will participate. “The footballers of the different teams come at a very high level”, he explained, emphasizing that the competition will be fierce and exciting. Despite this challenge, the coach is confident that Colombia can achieve a leading role and reach the final, facing powers such as Argentina, Brazil or Uruguay.

Asked about expectations for the Copa América, Dudamel rejected the notion that any result short of winning the tournament is a failure.

“We often use the word failure in a very folkloric, very irresponsible way.”

In his opinion, reaching the final and competing for the title would be a significant achievement, but not reaching that goal should not be seen as a total failure.

The Bucaramanga coach also spoke about his respect and admiration for Néstor Lorenzo, current coach of the Colombian team. “I totally identify with the way he leads the team, how he can integrate a number of internationally established talents,” he said.
