From the Diwan Publishing House in Madrid, the Spanish translation of the poetry collection “Confessions Under Torture” by the poet Rachid Nini, which was previously published by the House of Poetry in Morocco, was recently published. Its translation from Arabic to Spanish was completed by the Moroccan poet and translator Khaled Raissouni.
The Spanish writer and writer Pedro Enriques presented this translation, saying: “Any good book of poetry begins with a good title, as it is the manuscript with the words that the author draws in the gallery of our mental images. And the poet Rachid Nini presents to us his poetic creativity in the book that these lines address under the title: ‘Confessions under Torture’.”
Enriques adds: “It may seem to us, without knowing anything else about its content, that we are facing a book with political aims, as the author will show us horrific images of a person subjected to inhuman practices of physical pain aimed at extracting a forced confession from him. There is some truth in this speculation if we understand the word ‘torture’ in its broad and open sense.”
The Spanish writer and writer added: “What raises astonishment and gives indications of the path that the poet intends to show us, lead us along, and make us feel it with him, is his writing of Pablo Neruda’s verses as an introductory gateway: ‘If nothing will save us from death, then let love at least save us from life’.”
Pedro Enriques continued: “The poet presents to us his heart and his senses, in a book of poetic confessions in which we find ourselves at certain moments; he makes us feel the same ebb and flow of ships moved by the wind. A book to contemplate and return to its pages on strange and lonely days.”
As the same speaker said: “I record in these words my testimony to the wonderful translation from Arabic to Spanish. A good translation is what allows us to embrace the poet when we close the book, and this is what I do in these lines. There is now a way left for us to travel in the bliss of creativity, feelings, ideas, and hidden keys that only the poet Rashid knows, and whose horizons he will open like storytellers, next to the fire of the printed book between the hands, and in the voice, and in the silence of reading, and in the evening hymns, and in “The joy of the word in a state of freedom.”
