Quick-Step issues a strong warning to Van Aert and Van der Poel

Spring is coming again and the Soudal Quick-Step harvest has been quite poor for the last two seasons. They hope to change that this spring, especially with Julian Alaphilippe.

The Frenchman demonstrated at the Tour Down Under that he is on the right path. The Wolfpack expects something from him this spring. “We want him to compete in the final again instead of making hopeless escapes. Let him learn to compete for victory again. Because ultimately that’s the point.”

“The fewer the results, the lower the confidence. The Tour Down Under was a great test. I know from personal experience that once you get a good start, the rest gets easier. The doubts have disappeared,” team leader Geert Van Bondt told Het Nieuwsblad.

Van Aert and Van der Poel lit the fire

So Alaphilippe knows what he has done, but at Soudal Quick-Step they have full faith in their leader. “I am convinced that a good Alaphilippe will still play with Van der Poel and Van Aert in the classics”, is De Bondt’s warning. “After the Omloop and the Strade Bianche we know how it is”.

The two-time world champion will add a few more percentages on stage. “On Monday he will leave for an altitude training camp in the Sierra Nevada. There he puts the finishing touches on preparations for spring. Omloop het Nieuwsblad is the next race.”
