A royal advisor states in the forthcoming book “Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story” that the late monarch was “as angry as I’ve ever seen her” after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry publicly said they had received approval to use her maiden name for their second son.
The new revelation comes more than two years after a source told the BBC that Queen Elizabeth “was never asked” her opinion on Lilibet’s name until her birth in June 2021.

– Doubt they asked
“A palace source told the BBC that the Queen was not asked by Meghan and Harry to use her childhood nickname. Harry reportedly asked the Queen for permission to name the newborn Lilibet, but a palace source says the Queen ‘was never asked,'” the BBC’s royal correspondent wrote at the time.

However, sources confirmed to the New York Post that Harry (39) called and spoke to his grandmother after Markle (42) gave birth in California.
– There will probably have been a conversation saying that it’s arrived and we’re going to name it after you, it’s not really something you can say no to. I doubt they asked, they were probably quite knowledgeable, another source added.
Nickname
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced the girl’s arrival in a statement, writing:
“She is more than we could have ever imagined and we are grateful for the love and prayers we have received from all over the world. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

“Lili was named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, who is nicknamed Lilibet in the family. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales,” they added.

Buckingham Palace celebrated Lili’s birth a few days later in a statement on behalf of the royal family.
“The Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed a daughter,” a spokesperson said.
In addition to Lilibet Diana, who is now 2 years old, Harry and Markle are also parents to their son Archie (4), born in May 2019.
