The Ankoay Ankorondrano Gymnasium will host the 2024 Madagascar Youth Chess Championship from July 26 to 28. 102 participants, divided into the U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17 categories, boys and girls, from the four regional leagues such as Analamanga, Amoron’i Mania, Alaotra Mangoro and Bongolava, responded to the call of the Malagasy Chess Federation (FMJE) this year. The championship takes place over 7 to 10 rounds, with a pace of 1h + 2x30s per move. In addition to the title of champion of Madagascar, this national youth championship also offers a major opportunity: qualification for the 2025 African Championships, which will be held in Tunisia. Chess enthusiasts continue to make progress. In addition to the federation’s program to integrate chess into schools, which is a key factor in the development of this sport, the initiation and awareness tournament continues every first Wednesday of the month at La City Ivandry. We have also established a new collaboration with the Analakely municipal library for sessions every Saturday morning starting this month. “, said Haja Rambolamalalatiana, the National Technical Director of the FMJE.
The FMJE also plans other important events for this year: the Madagascar Senior Men’s Championship will take place in Toliara from August 10 to 15, the Veterans and Senior Women will have their competition in October in Antananarivo, and the National Rapid and Blitz Championship will close the season in Tana.
