Qatar wins the award for best sporting event and creative facility

The opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and Al-Nahim whale shark sculpture, the icon of Lusail, which was chosen from among 333 competing events from 24 countries, won the gold medal in the category of Sports Event and Creative Creation, awarded to it by the jury of the BeaWorld Festival held in Rome in November 24, 2023.
Balesh Creative Studio, a leader in creating live entertainment experiences, and part of the Media and Entertainment Powerhouse, Banijay, won top awards through two events that celebrate Qatar and the values ​​of sports with contemporary and innovative narratives.
Recognized as the best sporting event, the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was a unique event, with a 30-minute ceremony organized simultaneously in more than 170 countries, becoming a milestone in the history of world football and supporting the country’s global vision.
Balish Creative Studio, after being selected by the Organizing Committee of the 2022 FIFA World Cup – the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, and its branch “Qatar 2022”, designed and produced the ceremony with the support of the well-known Qatari artist Ahmed Al Baker as co-artistic director.
Marko Balich created the whale shark sculpture, Lusail Trail, which was chosen as the best creative facility during the FIFA World Cup, in recognition of the country’s interest in preserving its natural environment. Having created a social media sensation and been watched by 70,000 spectators during the tournament, the whale shark is now an enduring symbol of sustainability as well as being considered a new landmark for the country.
