Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that NATO would go into a state of war if Ukraine attacked his country with long-range weapons.
The Western bloc, led by the United States, was signaling a positive response to Kiev’s request in this regard.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken recently promised that Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s request would be decided quickly.
Speaking after this statement, Putin threatened that the targeting of these weapons on Russian territory would “change the course” of the war.
The Russian leader said, “In this case, NATO countries, the United States, and European Union countries are at war with Russia.”
Putin continued his words by saying, “We will make a decision appropriate to the threat we will face.”
Kiev wants to use the long-range weapons provided to it against military targets on Russian territory.
Under current protocols, the use of these weapons against Russian targets within Ukrainian territory is permitted.
Speaking in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, on Thursday, Blinken said that they would act “in a way that adapts to new situations that arise.”
During his visit to Kiev on Wednesday, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said Russia’s use of Iranian-made ballistic missiles on Ukrainian territory had “changed the debate” on the issue.
Zelenskyy argued that due to the delay in the process, Russia has begun to move its military facilities that may be targeted.
Biden is expected to make the decision on this issue during his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House on Friday.
Counter-attack at Kursk
A counter-offensive was also launched against Ukrainian troops that entered Russian territory at the beginning of August.
Zelenskyy also confirmed that Russia attacked its troops in the Kursk region.
Kiev announced that a 1,300 square kilometer area, including 100 settlements, had been taken over by Ukraine in a surprise attack launched on August 6.
Moscow announced that they had recaptured 10 settlements from Ukrainian control.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy argues that the situation on this front is developing in accordance with the Ukrainian plan.
