PTI wants to join hands with other parties to share reserved seats – 2024-02-12 10:27:31

Imprisoned Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is desperate to get reserved seats in Pakistan’s National Assembly. The party has taken a policy decision to join hands with other parties to get reserved seats. Sunday (February 11) Said this PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. Pakistani media Dawn reported this news.

Reserved seats play an important role in government formation in any assembly. Due to the lack of reserved seats, independent candidates supported by PTI will have to gain momentum to form the government in the national and provincial assemblies. Because independent candidates are considered ineligible for seats reserved for women and minorities. Those seats are divided among different parties.

PTI could not participate in the election as a party due to political and legal complications in this election. However, the party’s independent candidates contested the elections. However, the issue of reserved seats for PTI will definitely stand in the way of claiming a majority in Parliament. Therefore, PTI has taken a policy decision to ally or merge with other political parties in order not to sink to the bottom. Through this, they want to strengthen their hold on reserved seats.

Speaking to Dawn News on Sunday, PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that it is true that they have decided to join hands with other parties. However, PTI must not approach PML-N or PPP for a possible alliance.

Speaking on the Dusra Rukh show, he made it clear, ‘We don’t feel comfortable with either party. There will be no discussion about forming a government with anyone or forming a government together. It is better to sit in the opposition than to form a government with them. But we think we have enough majority to form a government.’

He reiterated that PTI would form a strong opposition if his mandate was not accepted.

PTI may consider partnering with other parties to form an electoral alliance after ousting PML-N and PPP, the largest parties at the Center and the provinces.

In this case Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) can be an alternative. The party has three seats in the KP assembly. PTI and JI already have experience of working together as allies in KP government. In 2013, the two parties formed a ruling coalition. However, that partnership was officially dissolved at the end of the provincial government’s term in May 2018.

Another option as a possible alliance could be Majil-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM). MWM is one of the parties that maintains good relations with PTI. However, it is understood that MWM has not submitted a list of candidates for minority seats. Besides, it could not be confirmed whether they have also submitted the list of women candidates.
