Protests in Jordan over Israeli attacks on West Bank

Hundreds of people in Jordan protested Israel’s “wide-scale” offensive in the occupied West Bank that began on August 28.

Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Husseini Mosque in the capital Amman upon the call of the Islamic Working Front Party (ICF), the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood Organization (Ikhwan) in Jordan, and marched to Nahil Square, about one kilometre away from the mosque.

The protesters chanted slogans such as “The displacement of West Bankers is an attack on Jordan”, “We promise to walk on the path of the Flood from the West Bank, Gaza, Amman (Al-Aqsa)”, “They said Hamas is a terrorist. The entire West Bank is Hamas” and “March, march, Hamas… You are the gun, we are the bullet.”

During the protest, participants carried Palestinian flags and held up banners reading: “We will protect Jordan by supporting the resistance and strengthening the home front.”

A Jordanian woman named Ummu Hamza told AA during the protest, “We are taking to the streets today because we are saddened by the terrible silence. The West Bank has joined Gaza (in Israel’s attacks), whose turn will it be tomorrow?”

“Our protest today is for our homeland, our nation, the West Bank and Gaza. By Allah, we will never remain silent about entering the West Bank and Gaza. Have mercy on the people of Gaza. How long will this silence continue?” said Ummu Hamza, calling on the leaders of the countries to take action to protect humanity.

It was reported that 17 Palestinians were killed, many injured and 45 people detained in the “large-scale” attacks launched by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank on August 28.

While the death toll from Israel’s attacks on Gaza has exceeded 40,000, mostly women and children, in the last 10 months, the humanitarian disaster in the region is deepening day by day.
