Protect your children from the digital world

Parents must increasingly be more attentive to the impact that Internet access can have on children and adolescents. Fortunately, there are many recommendations and tools to help them.

A study carried out by Kaspersky found that 55% of parents in Mexico consider the Internet as a threat to their children because they can fall into phishing scams, lose their personal data or passwords, have their computers infected by malicious code and , in more serious cases, being harassed online.

Children are among the most vulnerable public, since they are more susceptible to various types of social engineering, a technique with which cybercriminals seek to deceive them to obtain, for example, their personal information. Therefore, the consequences of doing something wrong in the digital world can be much more serious for them than for adults,” the Russian cybersecurity company warned.

Given this, the first step to protect children and adolescents is to explain to them what risks exist on the Internet, what types of pages can be harmful and how they could be deceived by people they meet online. For this reason, Kaspersky developed a digital guide in Spanish called Cybersecurity Alphabet, which teaches the little ones in the home to recognize the tricks of scammers and learn the importance of staying safe online.

While it teaches parents what parental control tools they can use on the different devices that children and adolescents use.

Pay attention

They should also be taught not to share personal information such as last name, home address, and school name when surfing the Internet to maintain their privacy.
