Prosecutor Dilyan Deyanov, who was accused in the “Eight Dwarfs” saga, has been reinstated. This was decided by the Supreme Judicial Council on Wednesday. The reason is that the decree charging him has been revoked.
Thus, Deyanov can return to work at the district prosecutor’s office in Pernik. The decision of the SJC is subject to appeal.
Deyanov is accused of official crime. He is one of the prosecutors who returned gold coins previously seized from businessman Yavor Zlatanov. He is the main victim of the “Eight Dwarfs” affair. Zlatanov-son became a defendant after his father Iliya Zlatanov, with whom they had a long-standing conflict, sought assistance from former investigator Petrov. At that time, he used the now defunct restaurant “Eight Dwarfs” as his office.
Zlatanov-sin was arrested, and during the raids the prosecutors seized hundreds of gold coins and several hundred thousand euros from his vaults. Months later, the gold was supposedly returned to Zlatanov-father. However, he claims that it was taken by Pavlova and an attorney close to Petrov. It is about 35 kilograms of gold. People around Petrov present false documents that the coins were bought from abroad by father Zlatanov. He himself never had any claim to the coins. The disputes with his son are about the family business with elevators produced by the “Izamet” enterprises.
Deyanov has not commented on the already canceled charges. His lawyer predicted last summer that he would likely be acquitted.
