MPs from the opposition parties characterized the response of the Minister of Justice, George Floridis, to the “shoes” at the scene of the tragedy in Tempi as provocative and ironic, as he said in his speech on the motion of no confidence against the government, that “those of the politicians who speak for bazomata, it’s for the rubbish”.
In particular, Mr. Floridis attacked the opposition, stating that it adopts an “unreliable publication” and that the facts of the case are known from the beginning. He also accused SYRIZA of not voting for the amendment passed by the government, which allows the investigator to have direct evidence, such as recorded conversations.
He added that the earthworks at the site of the fatal accident were carried out by crews who attempted to open a road at the scene, so that the rescue crews could approach, immediately after the tragedy.
“Left-wing fascism will achieve its goal when the questioning of the institutions of Parliament and the Judiciary comes to the consciousness of the world,” he declared at another point of his speech, citing Mikis Theodorakis: “All this questioning that came to question the Justice is what paves the way, as Mikis Theodorakis said about left-wing fascism.”
As for PASOK, of which he was also a minister, he stated that “you are not submitting a proposal for criminal prosecution” for a minister, but “you are presenting conversations that have been in the file since then, as a great discovery”.
At the same time, he announced that the construction of the space in Larissa to hold the trial is progressing, saying that “it will be ready by the end of May” and there will be places for “100 lawyers, a conference room, so that we do not experience the tragedy with the Eye, which when it was over you couldn’t find a room for the trial to take place.”
Business… “collection”
After the intense reactions caused by his statement about the “shoes”, Giorgos Floridis came back saying that “respecting the pain of the people, the government decided to enter the political field and now things have become difficult for you. Human tragedies are not offered as political opportunities, the truth is redemptive and catalytic.”
He reiterated that the government’s intention is “to respect the pain of the families and to shed a lot of light. The functioning of the Judiciary must be protected and we will continue to the end so that the investigation is concluded without any question marks,” he added.
“We will see if there were flammable materials, foreign laboratories will respond, if there were videos, but also the findings of the experts, everything will be examined so that there are no gaps. 100 lawyers are involved in the case and no one complains that the judiciary is not doing its job well. If they found loopholes, wouldn’t they react? The message is that people should continue to trust Justice, they need a shield of protection against demagogues”, he also noted.
It is recalled, however, that a few hours before his placement in Parliament, the Minister of Justice admitted that the investigator for five months after the tragic accident in Tempi, could not listen to the conversations of those involved because of the law…
