Pro-Israel Organization Administrator Allegedly a Hajj Officer, MUI Asks Ministry of Religion to Conduct Screening

JAKARTA – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has suspended 2 members of the MUI Fatwa Commission because they are suspected of being involved in organizations or NGOs affiliated with Israel . The two NGO members are registered as members of the MUI Fatwa Commission with the initials MAQ and AR.

From the results of MUI’s internal consolidation, it is known that there is an NGO formed by several people whose vision is to build partnership relations with Israel.

New facts have been discovered that MAQ is the leader of the RAHIM Institute (The Ibrahim Heritage Study Center for Peace). In addition, MAQ is also the administrator of the central MUI and PWNU Jakarta.

Ironically, this year he became an Indonesian government hajj officer. This can be seen on his Facebook account, MAQ often uploads his activities such as serving hajj officers and various other activities.

Responding to this, MUI Secretary General Amirsyah Tambunan said that the Ministry of Religion should conduct a profile screening process for future candidates.

“On the one hand, it is for Hajj officials regarding internal matters of the Ministry of Religion, but on the other hand, screening needs to be carried out so that it is clear and clean so as not to cause problems in the future,” he said in Jakarta, Thursday (18/7/2024).

He regretted MAQ’s involvement in building partnership relations with Israel. Their involvement actually hurt the feelings of the Indonesian people.

“Once again, what these two activists did really makes our hearts ache or we feel sad, it hurts our hearts because at a time when the Indonesian nation is fighting earnestly to defend Palestinian independence. However, both of them have lost their conscience,” he said.

With this case, MUI invites the public to be careful with Israeli agents spread across the world. Do not let the public be lured by their tricks.

“We must not get caught up in the terms of enticement and flattery so that our commitment to the constitution, namely Indonesia, will participate in implementing eternal peace,” said Amirsyah.

Eternal peace is part of the constitutional mandate as well as world order. MUI as part of the nation’s components is committed to supporting the independence of the Palestinian people.
