Private Universities: The unconstitutionality of the law was rejected in Parliament

The petition of unconstitutionality filed by SYRIZA, the KKE, the Hellenic Solution and Niki against the bill of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs for private universities.

Also, earlier, SYRIZA, PASOK and KKE rejected it motion of no confidence to the government submitted by the president of the New Left Parliamentary Group, Alexis Haritsis.

Pierrakakis: Only us and Cuba…

The Minister of Education Kyriakos Perrakakis in his presentation before the Parliament noted that there is no question of the unconstitutionality of the bill noting that “only we and Cuba prohibit the establishment of state universities”.

“We choose to trust the opinions of constitutional experts”, the minister also noted.

Referring to the presence of foreign universities in Greece, he emphasized that with the bill there is care for non-profitability as otherwise the license is removed.

“Gift” to the government

Commenting on SYRIZA’s stance, the New Left representative spoke of an awkward response. “SYRIZA for small party reasons is undermining the defense of democracy and free public education” he pointed out.

Earlier, a SYRIZA press representative, speaking to SKAI, pointed out that “even if all parties of the left agree the government will get a vote of confidence” and wondered: “Would we be doing the government a favor three months before the European elections?”.

The New Left’s proposal was also commented on by Koumoundourou sources, arguing that they do not intend to make such a “gift” to Kyriakos Mitsotakis that will have the effect of rallying his forces.
