“Following up on the DKPP Decision and in accordance with Law No. 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections, the President has signed Presidential Decree No. 73 P dated July 9, 2024 concerning the dishonorable dismissal of Hasyim Asy’ari as a KPU Member for the 2022-2027 term,” said the Coordinator of the President’s Special Staff Ari Dwipayana in his statement, Wednesday (10/7/2024).
Previously, President Jokowi responded to the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) which dismissed Hasyim Asy’ari from the position of KPU Chairman due to being proven to have violated the code of ethics.
“The government respects the DKPP’s authority in making decisions,” said Jokowi at Sinjai Regional Hospital, South Sulawesi, Thursday (4/7/2024).
Jokowi ensured that the 2024 simultaneous regional elections would run smoothly even though Hasyim was removed from his position.
“And the government will also ensure that the regional elections can run well, smoothly, honestly and fairly,” said Jokowi.
For information, the DKPP dismissed Hasyim Asy’ari from the position of Chairman and Member of the KPU. The trial facts prove that Hasyim Asy’ari committed an immoral act against CAT, a Member of the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) of The Hague, Netherlands.
The verdict was read out by the Chairperson of the DKPP Trial Panel, Heddy Lugito, in a trial of the alleged violation of the Election Organizer Code of Ethics (KEPP) with the respondent, KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy’ari, in the DKPP Trial Room, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/7/2024).
