The head of the Executive declared that “Chile is recognized for its development, for its commitment to democracy, for its unrestricted commitment to human rights.” The president praised meetings with heads of state, incentives for investments in the country, the role in the Peace Summit in Ukraine and support for education policies.
Santiago. 17/6/2024President Gabriel Boric made a positive assessment in Paris of his tour of Europe, which included France, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden.
He indicated that “we did very well, both in Germany and in Sweden, in particular, in terms of commercial investment. We had meetings with foreign investors, with governments, with Prime Minister Scholz, the Prime Minister of Sweden, also at the summit we had bilateral meetings with Finland, with Switzerland, with Canada and they all value Chile very much and also see in our country tremendous investment possibilities, specifically, with regard to non-conventional renewable energies such as green hydrogen and regarding the national lithium strategy, adding value chains and technology transfer, which is what is tremendously important for us.”
On a sensitive political and diplomatic issue, President Boric emphasized the role played by the country in the Peace Summit in Ukraine. “What I am interested in pointing out is that Chile has a long tradition, a product of its own experience, of defending human rights anywhere in the world. And I pointed out very clearly in the framework of the summit in Ukraine, that this applies to Russia, it applies to Israel, it applies to each of the countries in the world and each of the global conflicts.”
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict and questions about his position, the Chilean president said that “I am very reassured by the consistency of the Chilean position on this issue.”
Boric stressed that “I am deeply proud of the recognition that Chile has at an international level,” and emphasized that “Chile is recognized for its development, for its commitment to democracy, for its unrestricted commitment to human rights and also for its concern regarding the challenges we face, for example, in the face of the climate crisis, in the face of inequality or now that you see, we are co-chairing a global body for challenges in education.”
On one of the last days of his tour of Europe, in Paris, Gabriel Boric participated in the High-Level Plenary of Sustainable Development Goal 4 at UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and there she maintained that “our States have to recognize the crucial role of education for the sustainable future of humanity on the planet and well-being. We have an urgent responsibility, we must mobilize and break barriers to ensure that every child, girl, youth and adult, whether man or woman, has access to inclusive, equitable and quality education.”
