President Gabriel Buric highlighted the realization of the Day of Patrimonies, and announced that he will also be divided into several dates throughout the year.
The president made the statement within the framework of Public Account 2025, held in Congress in Valparaíso.
“When we live our heritage, when taking care of it and enjoying it, we also build social fabric. And we lived so happy, so happy, last weekend, where more than 3.5 million people visited different heritage places in our country, on the day of heritage, which was created during the president of the President (Ricardo) Lagos,” he said.
He alluded to the creation of Heritage Day for Children, which is August 23, but also pointed out that he has commissioned the Ministry of Cultures to organize a second permanent date of the Day of Patrimonies to be held during the month of February.
Relevant space
“Culture, heritage and arts have a relevant space in our government,” he said.
Therefore, he said, his government has advanced to firmly increase the budget of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, which has grown 87% since 2022, a significant step towards the goal of 1%.
He added that his government is developing a heritage infrastructure plan, which has “emblematic” works, such as the Regional Museum of Atacama, the Library and the Regional Archive of Magallanes, among others.
He also stressed the importance of “cultural trains”, “which is a beautiful meeting space between art and our railway history. The Minister of Cultures (Carolina Arredondo = It has been arriving just from the cultural train in Arica, under the nose, and this year we will complete 12 stations when we reach Puerto Varas.”
He also said that the government has increased resources for museum programming, tripled the acquisition of bibliographic collections, and is investing in infrastructure improvement projects.
In addition, “EE 2025 we celebrated the 80 years of obtaining the Nobel Prize of our distinguished poet Gabriela Mistral. And we have done so by encouraging his reading, reading his work, throughout Chile and throughout the world, also supporting the transverse project so that the Coquimbo region bears his name, and projecting a great sculpture in his honor in the axis of the Alameda-Providencia.”
“And as Chile is a country of poets and writers, we have recovered by law the annual literature prize, it is delivered every year,” he said.

In 2025, he also pointed to a concrete advance for the sustainability of the cultural sector, delivering direct and transparent financing to trajectory organizations throughout the country, such as the School of Music and the Arts in Rapanui, of the pianist Mahari Teave, the Museum of Modern Art of Chiloé, the Modern Ballet Austral of the Lakes, the Vicente Huidobro Foundation and the Vicente Foundation of the Vicente Huidobro and Lebú, among others.
“Culture is the spirit of the people, it is not something accessory, we have to promote it, facilitate it, we have to finance it, because culture is also a job,” he concluded.
