In the midst of tensions with prepaid companies, the national government decided to lower prices. The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorniannounced that the Ministry of Economy made the decision to bring the prepaid values ​​to the amount of the last month of 2023.

Adorni said that this measure will include a group of companies that represent 75% of affiliates. While they will apply an adjustment for inflation during the next six months.

The deregulation dictated in the “megadecree”

The conflict between the administration of Javier Miley and prepaid medicine companies show greater tension and a complex scenario. The Government confirmed that it will present a precautionary measure today in court to roll back the increases that came after the deregulation dictated in the “megadecree” of December.

It is worth remembering that the increases have averaged 165% so far this year. This reversal was a decision adopted jointly between the Casa Rosada, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Health.

“A serious collapse of the system”

Meanwhile, spokespeople for prepaid companies warned that rolling back prices could cause “a serious collapse of the system.”

They warned that the money that came in from the 2024 increases was used. “That money is not there, it was used to cover supplies, salaries and benefits,” they argued.

It is also worth noting that different individuals presented precautionary measures to stop the increases. In no case was the Government the one who initiated this judicial procedure.

According to the Government, the prepaid companies would have engaged in “coordinated abusive conduct.” The Executive maintains that it registered increases between January and April that range between 142.7% and 163.9%. When this information is disaggregated, it is observed that in January the variations in the quotas of these five companies would have fluctuated between 39.8% and 44%; between 27.5% and 29.4% in February; in March, between 19% and 22.9% and in April, between 14% and 18.9%.
