Premium call from retirees: It must be paid back

According to the Social Security Institution (SGK) March 2024 data, 1 million 943 thousand 579 retirees continue to work with social security support premium.

In his statement to the AA correspondent, Kazım Ergün, Chairman of the Turkish Pensioners Association, stated that more than 16 million 154 thousand people received retirement and old-age pensions from SSI, and that some of the retirees continued to work for economic reasons.

“2 MILLION RETIRED PEOPLE CONTINUE WORKING”

Pointing out that according to SSI’s March 2024 data, 1 million 943 thousand 579 retirees continue to work by paying social security support premium to SSI, Ergün said, “The data show us that approximately 2 million retirees continue to work. As many as the number of retired retirees who are registered, unregistered or We have retirees working in Turkey. 4 million registered and unregistered retirees are forced to work. This corresponds to approximately one quarter of the retirees. The number of working retirees has increased rapidly with the EYT regulation. There is only one reason for this situation: our retirees have to work because they cannot make ends meet. “By increasing pensions, retirees can be prevented from working and young people can benefit from the employment gap that will arise.” he said.

“PREMIUMS SHOULD BE RETURNED TO PENSIONERS”

Kazım Ergün said that there is no additional return on this situation for retirees who are registered to work with social security support premiums, and that additional opportunities should be provided to retirees who continue to work and are registered with SSI. Referring to the importance of encouraging the registration of retirees who have to work by paying social security support premiums, Ergün said, “The premium payment made for our working retirees should be returned to the retirees in some way. This will increase their pensions.” said.
