Premiere of ‘Black Adam’ raised $67 million despite bad reviews

During its opening weekend in the United States.
“Black Adam”, the superhero film starring Dwayne Johnson and directed by the Spanish Jaume Collet-Serra, raised $67 million during its opening weekend in the United States, despite negative reviews.

The film, whose estimated budget is around $200 million, was the first choice in American theaters but its gross was far from other recent releases of the same genre such as “Thor: Love and Thunder” ($144 million) and “Doctor “Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (187 million).

Warner Bros., owner of the rights to DC Comics, has opted for the pull of Johnson, known as “The Rock”, and the character of “Black Adam” to relaunch its superhero franchise after the irregular reception of titles such as ” The Suicide Squad”, “Justice League” and “Birds of Prey”.

Although the first reviews of the film were negative and fans of the franchise were not enthusiastic, the title has been gaining better reviews in recent days and it seems that it will attract audiences to movie theaters in the coming weeks.

Curiously, Johnson already signed on for the saga in 2014 to play Black Adam in “Shazam!”, but the producers were so impressed with the camera tests that they decided to give the leading actor of “Fast & Furious” a solo film.

For its part, the premiere “Ticket To Paradise”, the romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and George Clooney, came in second place with a creditable $16.3 million.

The collection has exceeded the expectations placed on the title, since in recent years most romantic films have failed at the box office and many studios prefer to release them directly on streaming platforms.

According to the Box Office Mojo portal, more than 60% of the viewers who went to the cinema to see the meeting between Roberts and Clooney were over 35 years old.

In the rest of the box office, the horror of “Smile” was the third option with 8.4 million dollars, ahead of “Halloween Ends”, which brought in 8 million and the animated “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” with 4.2 millions.
