Doctors from the General University Hospital in Prague under the guidance of doc. MD David Zemánek performed one of the first successful procedures, when 2 valves were inserted into the superior and inferior vena cava by catheterization of the patient under general anesthesia.
The patient currently has 6 valves in her body: 3 functioning, 1 diseased and 2 new. “This procedure is performed on people whose valves can no longer be replaced or repaired,” explains doc. Zemánek.
The problems were getting worse
Mrs. Jana already underwent heart surgery 3 years ago. But some time ago, her difficulties returned again. “My cardiologist made an appointment with specialists here in Prague and I underwent surgery in April. And now I feel much better.” confirmed Bleska’s patient during a check-up with her operator, associate professor Zemánek. The shortness of breath, the feeling of a full stomach and the big swelling of the legs disappeared.
Hooray for hockey
“Finally I can devote myself to my hobbies. I plan to go to the theater and read a lot. And above all, I will buy a season ticket for hockey, because I am a big fan of the Liberec White Tigers,” the nice lady concludes her story with a smile.
You know that…
…valvular insufficiency means that the valve does not seal and blood does not flow as it should?
… have 5 of these unique procedures already been performed in the Czech Republic?
