Japan is preparing for the impact of Typhoon Shanshan, which brings heavy rains and hurricane-force winds, Liter.kz reports with reference to Tank.

The typhoon was located 120 kilometers south of Yakushima Island on the morning of August 28 and was moving north toward Kyushu at about 180 kilometers per hour, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. Forecasts indicate that the typhoon will reach southern Kyushu, possibly making landfall as early as Thursday. The agency has issued a high-level warning for Kagoshima Prefecture, where strong winds, high waves and heavy rainfall are expected.

“The Ministry of Disaster Management has asked residents in the risk zone to prepare in advance for a possible evacuation by checking nearby shelters and collecting necessary items. The importance of timely evacuation of elderly people at the slightest threat is especially emphasized,” the publication notes.

Dozens of domestic flights to the southwest have already been cancelled, and some train lines have been suspended, local media reported. Train companies said most trains were running as usual on Wednesday, but stoppages were expected on Kyushu starting Thursday, with similar measures possible on the main island of Honshu until Sunday.

In addition, postal and courier services have been suspended in the Kyushu region, and supermarkets and other stores are scheduled to close earlier than usual. Up to 600 millimeters of rain is forecast to fall in the southern part of Kyushu in 24 hours.

Earlier, it was reported that Typhoon Jongdari caused massive flooding in Japan and China.
