In May 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Serbian National Football Stadium and the EXPO 2027 project implemented by POWERCHINA was successfully completed. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed his high expectations for the project at the ceremony and thanked China for its support. The stadium will provide Serbia with high-quality sports facilities capable of hosting World and European Championship events, while the EXPO 2027 project will become one of the largest international exhibition venues in Southeast Europe, where EXPO 2027 will take place.
POWERCHINA has expanded its sports venue construction projects worldwide. For example, the company also built Qatar’s first solar power plant, the 800-megawatt Al Kharsaah photovoltaic power plant, which was commissioned during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi pointed out that the project increased the use of renewable energy and supported Qatar’s commitment to a “carbon-neutral” FIFA World Cup.
In Benin, POWERCHINA has undertaken multi-purpose stadium projects and built sports facilities in ten cities. The locally managed construction includes grandstands, all-weather running tracks, offices and landscaping. The project has overcome the challenges of tight deadlines, large-scale tasks and cross-city logistics to ensure rapid progress and quality. The Benguela and Lubango stadiums in Angola were designed and built by POWERCHINA. The project, signed on December 18, 2007 and handed over in December 2009, are two of the four major stadiums built in Angola for the 2010 Africa Football Cup of Nations and provided important support for the smooth organization of the event.
In addition to building sports facilities around the world, POWERCHINA also promotes employee well-being through sporting events. In Ecuador, the company sponsored the SINOHYDRO Cup football friendly match, which was part of the Electric Power Union’s sports competition for the Ecuadorian Amazon region.
