BIOGAS UNIT IN SKLIVANI
The debate on the licensing of the biogas production and exploitation unit in Sklivani was postponed by the Regional Council for Environmental Licensing of the Decentralized Administration of the Epirus of Western Macedonia, causing strong reactions in the wider area of the Municipality of Dodoni.
This is another RES project that is being attempted to be located in an area with intense anthropogenic activity and not an isolated one and of course, the postponement of Wednesday does not make the residents complacent with the struggle committee they have set up and with the help of the Municipality of Dodoni as well as of the Region of Epirus, are planning the next steps for the definitive prevention of this installation.
The main objection of the residents has to do with the large capacity of the plant that is planned to process for its daily operation, with poultry waste that will obviously come from other areas.
The president of the Sklivani Local Community Charalambos Karapanos argued in his statements that this particular unit will disturb the whole community and the surrounding villages as the nearest house is only 650 meters away, the distance from the center of the villages of Pesta, Sklivani and Agia is short. Triada while nearby passes the stream that ends at Hani Emin Aga in Terovo and which from 12 months to 9 has a continuous flow.
The clubs, the community and the whole village are against it from an accident point of view but also from an aesthetic point of view, argued Mr. Karapanos, while at least 2,000 people gather in the village of Sklivani in the summer.
“The official state and the bodies that make the decisions must understand that it is not only the numbers, it is also a matter of communication with the residents” noted Mr. Karapanos.
For his part, Vassilis Maggioros, representative of the race committee, pointed out that not a single kilogram of untreated livestock waste is produced in the village and at the same time the investor wants to bring 220 tons per day to be processed in his unit.
Mr. Maggioros thanked the Municipality of Dodoni and the Region of Epirus for being close to the residents from the first moment, while as he emphasized, “the war continues, we continue our fight and all environmental conditions will be examined in detail”.
