Kraainem –
A Bpost employee who came to deliver the mail in a Kraainem street got completely stuck with his van. According to a local resident, this happened in an attempt to get as close to the mailbox as possible. According to Bpost, he just wanted to park, although it is acknowledged that the man made a mistake. A tow truck was even used to drag the car out of the mud.
The incident dates back to the middle of last week. The driver made a maneuver and got stuck in the muddy grass strips. “It is apparently so difficult to walk a few meters to get to the mailbox,” says a displeased local resident. “Of course, Bpost will not repair the damaged grass and deep ruts.”
“We have contacted the local person responsible for this incident and requested some guidance,” says Bpost spokeswoman Veerle Van Mierlo. “In any case, what the colleague did there is not okay. Everyone agrees on that. The colleague involved was also spoken to about this and communication was sent to the entire team to once again sensitize them about respecting the traffic code. It is the task of our postmen to do their job efficiently, safely and in accordance with the traffic rules.” (read more below the photo)

Van Mierlo does point out that for this specific case the context is slightly more subtle than no effort being made. “There were agreements with one of the residents to temporarily station on the driveway, to then serve the surrounding houses. That owner reversed his decision and that is why the postman had to find another parking space. However, this solution was not the correct one. A safe alternative solution is being looked at.”
