Animation which is a ‘hell’ is left open by Vietnamese cinema. However, recently, the positive signs of Vietnamese animation, when there are quality films in both images, content was released and gradually reached the international market.
The films are elaborately invested, enthusiastic
At the end of May, at theaters, 3D cartoon “Quỳnh – Legend of Taurus” was released, attracting audiences in different ages. The film is prepared for a year and a half, with the participation of famous cartoon artists in Vietnam. The film is inspired by the familiar status of Trang Quynh in so many oral folk stories from the old life, the director refreshes and built the main character in “Nhi Quynh: The legend of Taurus” is a brave, sincere boy with sharp wisdom, associated with strange challenges on the big screen …
Another film also released in May, before the International Children’s Day, “De Men: The adventure to the muddy village”, this is the first 3D movie movie inspired by the work “De De Adventure” by the late writer To Hoai.
Two Vietnamese animated films launched in the summer this year have made progress in both content and image quality. The images in the movie are eye -catching, much more vivid than before. In particular, the cartoon production team has taken advantage of the strength of Vietnamese village culture, using literary materials close to generations of our students to build the story content.
However, there is a fact, although Vietnamese studios are trying to release quality cartoons and receive enthusiastic support from the audience, but Vietnamese cartoons are easily “knocked” in front of foreign films.
Vietnamese cartoons gradually reappear on the international arena
It can be said that cartoons are a “billion -dollar” film market in the world, giving the producer a huge source of revenue. According to Box Office Vietnam in 2024, there are two animated films in the top 10 films with the most box office revenue, “Doraemon: Nobita and the globe symphony” reached more than VND 147.5 billion and “Kungfu Panda 4” reached VND 136.3 billion.
In the past few years, with many efforts, Vietnamese cartoons were inherently absent in the international arena, gradually returning. In 2020, the animated film “Cruel: Pre -story” was shown in many film festivals, events in Greece, Japan, Italy … Also in that year, the film won the Best 2D Film Award at Khem Cartoon Festival (USA) and reached the final of the Montreal International Animation Festival (Canada).
Or the short film “U Linh Tich Ky: Miraculous powder” by Sunwolf Studio, director Dinh Anh Tuan has participated at the 29th Stuttgart Film Festival (Germany) and the 48th Seattle Film Festival (USA). The film lasts more than 7 minutes, led by the image of the child, the central bowl of fish vermicelli, the inspiration from the ancient town of the world … Quan in the future.
The movie “Wolfoo and the mysterious island” marked the first time a Vietnamese animated film was commercially exploited in the market. The film was quickly in the top 3 cartoons with the highest box office revenue in Vietnam, earning nearly 2 billion after less than 1 week of premiere, with more than 800 mats and 15,000 tickets for sale.
To develop Vietnamese animated films to a new height, share with the media, Assoc. PhD. Bui Hoai Son, Permanent Member of the Culture and Education Committee, said that there are 4 important issues that need to focus on next time: promoting creative talents to produce worthy cartoon; Continue to promote the exploitation of national cultural values, creating their own identity for Vietnamese animation; Applying advanced technology, suitable, fast as close to the world level. Finally, it is necessary to pay more attention to business skills so that films come to global audiences, build a brand in the world cartoon market.
