Police in the South warn young people against street thieves. There is said to be an “increasing trend in the number of street robberies”.
Young people are especially victims. The police then give them several tips via Instagram.
For example, it is recommended to always walk in well-lit areas and avoid secluded paths, especially at night. Police advise against the use of telephones and earplugs because they make young people less aware of their surroundings.
“You travel in a group, especially in the evening. Together you are stronger and the risk of unwanted accidents is reduced,” the police also wrote. “Carry your bag in the front and make sure it is closed tightly. Be careful with your belongings. Bring a limited number of valuables with you.”
Police also say that “whether in the foreground or background, they are busy mapping and enforcing everything.” In case of emergency or suspicious situations, people are asked to call 112, and the police also hope that victims will always report the incident. This would be “essential for an effective approach to this problem”.
