Police rule out terrorist motive after attack in the United Kingdom

The British Police are not investigating as a terrorist attack a massive stabbing that took place on Saturday and left ten people injured, including two seriously, police sources reported this Sunday. For the attack, which occurred on a train heading from Doncaster to London’s King’s Cross station, there are two men detained, both of British nationality.

Although anti-terrorist units initially collaborated with the investigation, that motivation finally appears to have been ruled out after the attack. “At this time, there is no indication that this is a terrorist incident,” Superintendent John Loveless of the Transport Police said from the station where the attack occurred, which remains closed.

The detainees, who are suspected of attempted murder, are two men aged 32 and 35 who are being interrogated separately to try to clarify what happened. Both were captured by police after the train where the attack occurred made an emergency stop in Huntingdon, about 130 kilometers north of London.

Of the ten people injured by the stab wounds who had to be hospitalized, four have already been discharged and two are in critical condition “in danger of death.” Prime Minister Keir Starmer called what happened a “dreadful incident” and “deeply worrying,” while King Charles III declared he was “truly horrified and shocked.”

Olly Foster, a witness to the attack, told the BBC that he was on the train when someone ran by warning that there was a man stabbing “everything and everyone.” “I leaned on a seat and my hand was covered in blood. Then I looked at the other seats and there was blood everywhere,” he said.

Another witness told Sky News that a suspect was brandishing a huge knife and was then subdued by officers who used a stun gun. Police Chief Loveless asked citizens to try to provide more information about the incident and provide details “no matter how small they may seem,” and offered several phone lines to do so.
