Poland is crowned Miss World 2021 and tremendous controversy breaks out

The announcement caused disappointment and even boos among the public, surprised by the absence of some of the experts’ main favorites: the Venezuelan Alejandra Condeand the local candidate, the Puerto Rican Aryam Díaz.

Among the audience, delegations from Latin American countries predominated, such as Venezuela and Mexicowho did not stop waving the national flags and shouting the names of their countries.

“May a Latina win,” “Venezuela, land of queens” and “I am Puerto Rican, so you know,” were some of the slogans that many in the room chanted loudly.

The final gala was also held after several legal controversies, since the company Puerto Rico With a Purpose (PRwaP) sued for alleged fraud at Miss World 2016 and president of the organization Reignite Puerto Rico Inc., Stephanie Del Valle.

PRwaP demanded payment of $1,225,000, a sum of money coming from public funds that supposedly the former Puerto Rican beauty queen had not returnedwho however demonstrated that he made the corresponding payment.

Del Valle countersued PRwaP, requesting an amount greater than 31 million dollars for moral damagesand announced that she would not participate in the events of the Miss World 2021 final.

There were, in fact, shouts in favor of Del Valle and boos at other organizers or sponsors of the contest, such as the cryptocurrency magnate Brock Pierce, in charge of PRwaP, and the president of the Miss World Organization, Julia Morley.

During the event, Ukraine was remembered and Pierce asked attendees to light the candles on the months, in a tribute enlivened by the voice of Jamaican Toni-Ann Singh.
