Today is the birthday of Major General Polad Hashimov, the National Hero of Azerbaijan.
Publika.az informs that P. Hashimov was born on January 2, 1975 in Vandam village of Gabala district.
Later, he moved to Sumgayit with his family. He received his secondary education first at school number 28 and then at school number 34 in the city of Sumgait. He graduated from Heydar Aliyev Higher Military School.
On July 14, 2020, Major-General P.Hashimov was heroically martyred during the fierce fighting in the direction of Tovuz while preventing the attack attempt of the Armenian armed forces.
Deputy Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Karim Valiyev conveyed the news of his martyrdom to the public with deep sadness. On July 14, the body of Major General Polad Hashimov was first brought to Vandam settlement of Gabala region, where he was born, and then to Sumgait city, where he lived. The general was buried on July 15 in II Fakhri Alley, next to Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev.
President Ilham Aliyev spoke on the phone with the mother of Major General Polad Hashimov, who was heroically martyred while he was on the front line of the defense during the war, and expressed deep condolences to the family members of the martyr.
On December 9, 2020, by the order of President Ilham Aliyev, P. Hashimov was named “National Hero of Azerbaijan”.
It should be recalled that in 2003, as a major, P.Hashimov was awarded the “For Military Services” medal by order of President Heydar Aliyev. Six years later, in 2009, he was awarded the “For the Fatherland” medal by order of President Ilham Aliyev as a lieutenant colonel. On June 25, 2014, Polad Hashimov, who was awarded the III degree “For Service to the Fatherland” order, was awarded the II degree “For Service to the Fatherland” order for his bravery in the April 2016 battles.
P. Hashimov was the Chief of Staff of the 1st Army Corps, which fought for the Talysh settlement, during the front-line military operations on April 2-4, 2016, and was injured. On June 25, 2019, Polad Hashimov was awarded the high military rank of “major general”. He was later appointed Chief of Staff of the 3rd Army Corps of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces.
In 2020, the street where the Alley of Martyrs is located in the city of Gabala was named after Polad Hashimov. From 2021, one of the streets of Baku city is named after the National Hero of Azerbaijan.
The name of P. Hashimov has been immortalized in Turkey. Thus, a new park named after Polad Hashimov was built in Demirtaş region of Osmangazi district.
P. Hashimov’s sons named Davud and Teymur, and daughter named Aybeniz, were left behind. (Oxu.Az)
