Pilsen: Teo (2) was born with a genetic defect, he needs help

Teodorek was born prematurely by acute cesarean section and weighed only 990 grams. He had to be resuscitated immediately. He brought two huge health complications into his life. “His lungs have been affected since birth, so he breathes with pulmonary ventilation,” describes Mrs. Veronika. Klúček also suffers from a genetic disability.

“Myopathy is a congenital muscle weakness – it remained undetected during pregnancy, no one had any idea that the son was dealing with such a serious disease. Because of it, he can’t move enough, he only started holding his head at the age of one and still can’t sit or walk. He only started turning at nine months, today he can turn on his side, but still not on his stomach. In addition, he has a swallowing disorder, so he is fed by a feeding tube inserted directly into his stomach.” Mom explains further.

What will be next?

No one knows how Teodorko’s condition will develop further. Myopathy is incurable. “The doctors told us that he would probably only survive a few days or months. That he would never turn around and never breathe on his own. But Teo surprises us every day. Not only that, thanks to the regular rehabilitations and therapies we attend with him, he started to turn around. He can even breathe on his own for a few hours a day.” she rejoices at the progress of Mrs. Veronika’s son, saying that, despite these small advances, taking care of him is incredibly demanding, literally required 24 hours a day.

“We still have to suction his saliva and mucus because he could suffocate. That’s why I can’t drive alone with him, for example. Unfortunately, not even grandmothers can look after him, because taking care of the little one is beyond their powers,” he adds.

Any hand will do

For this reason, parents are very grateful for any help. They use services in the form of health assistants, who help the mother to exercise with Teodor, or hospice care, whose workers look after Teodorka when, for example, they need to take care of something at the authorities, or accompany them to doctors and rehabilitation.

“It is greatly appreciated because any help is a small relief for me. Honestly, I have to admit that since the birth of Teodorek, I haven’t had a moment that I could say I rested. And I have a great husband who can take care of Teodorek perfectly even by himself. However, the financial burden of the whole family rests on him, so he has enough of his own work.” explains Mrs. Veronika, saying that this was also the reason why they also decided to ask the Good Angel Foundation for help.

Thanks to donors, we can provide Teoušek with the best physiotherapy care, which is not covered by the insurance company, but which greatly advances Teo in his development.” thanks Mrs. Veronika and adds that thanks to these therapies, her son’s condition has improved so much that they are starting to communicate with each other using sign language.

“For now, he marks animals that he likes very much. I myself learn a few words every day. I believe that one day we will fully understand each other in sign language.”
