Pilgrims flock to Ram-Sadhur fair in Shariatpur – 2024-02-13 07:22:20

Pilgrims flocked to the Ram-Sadhur fair in Shariatpur. Thousands of devotees from home and abroad are flocking to the fair which started from Sunday (February 11) at Satyanarayan’s Seva Mandir.

Locals said that people are crowding the temporary food and sweets shops set up in the fair. Children are riding on the Nagardola. In front of the temple the melodious tune of khol, cymbals and flutes are playing. Adding to that is the sweet sound of harmonium and violin. Shri Krishna’s name kirtan is being sung with musical instruments. The devotees listen to that sweet kirtan with concentration.

70-year-old Ramakrishna Chattopadhyay came from Agartala, India. He said, Dingamanik is our place of pilgrimage. Our Rama Tagore was born in this holy land. I came to this fair several times with my father when I was a child. If I could not come last two years, I came this year. Here actually our mind becomes pure.

Uma Rani Chakraborty of Dingamanik Ashram area said, Ram Tagore is my father’s cousin. He has been traveling abroad since he was 12 years old. Used to come here sometimes. He has many fans and followers. A big fair is held here on the last three days of the month of Magh every year. Many devotees from home and abroad gathered.

Tama Chakraborty, who came to the fair, said that this is the Seva Mandir of Satyanarayan. Every year many people come here for pilgrimage. Coming to Tagore’s house is indeed a matter of luck. Every year lakhs of people gather on this day of temple establishment.

Gaurang brought Manihari goods shop from Manikganj to the fair. He said, I have been coming to shop at this fair for 15 years. Thousands of people come to the fair. We sell very well. Today, two days of the fair are selling roughly. Expect more sales tomorrow.

Govind Pal, president of Satyanarayan’s Seva Mandir festival committee, said it is the holy birthplace of Ram Tagore. A three-day fair is organized here every year on this day. On the occasion of the fair, lakhs of devotees come here from different districts of the country including India. Accommodation is provided for the devotees from far and wide.
