There are seven works by composers born or established in Chile, Spain, Greece, Argentina, Swiss, Germany y AustraliaThey focus on a traditional instrument, the piano, but surround it with less conventional objects and sounds. All these elements come together in Impacta suite for piano and pots which is the heart of Female Resistancethe show that the Chilean pianist Maria Paz Santibanez has been presented for four years in France and Chile, which can now be seen and heard in the Usach Aula Magna Theatre. “More than a concert, Female Resistance “It is a show conceived around the defense of people’s rights, particularly women’s rights, and contemporary creation. The guiding thread is a concert, but around these works a staging is incorporated, with videos and performance,” explains the performer who has been based in Madrid for decades. “They all wrote these works out of respect for the dignity of people and they are contemporary creators. The same is true for the videographers who participated and even for the utensils used in the show, which range from wooden spoons that were offered to me when I played in Recoleta, to pots and pans that came from the University of Bordeaux, from Mexico and from my kitchen,” explains the pianist.

Although the suite Impact It is in the center of Female Resistancethe program includes other music. It begins and ends with piano pieces by the French composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918), includes part of the suite Outdoors from Hungarian Béla Bartók (1881-1945) and also includes another commissioned work: Bandagesby the Chilean composer Valeria Valley (1979), inspired by the world-famous performance “A rapist in your path”of the collective IN CHILDREN.

“Beyond the moment in which the need to create arises, I am an artist who evolves with the music and artistic works that I myself requested,” she says. Santibanez. “At the beginning, the video images were quite focused on the demonstrations in Chile, but today the project is dedicated to everything that goes against institutional patriarchy and in favor of the rights and dignity of people. There are women who take off their veils, Mexican women who demonstrate for their rights, the hunger of women in Palestine and, of course, there is Chile and the phenomenon that it provoked. IN CHILDREN. There is an echo of that performance and we included it in Greek, Italian, German, French and even Turkish.”

Although Female Resistance has as its only protagonist on stage Maria Paz Santibanezhas involved a group of artists.
