The Technical Committee of the Territorial Pact, led by the National Company Promoting Territorial Development (ENTerritorio) and the National Planning Department (DNP), visited Valledupar to carry out the meeting with the new local leaders. During the visit, the progress of 33.3% in the physical work of stage I of phase II of the campus of the National University of Colombia (UNAL) La Paz Headquarters was highlighted.
“The work of the UNAL Headquarters in La Paz is a very important project for the educational community, not only for the department of Cesar, but also for La Guajira, since it becomes a regional nucleus for the development of young people who will be able to access to higher education,” said Lina María Barrera, general manager of ENTerritorio.
He also highlighted that “the National University is directly executing the work and is advancing by leaps and bounds. There have been no resource additions or anything like that; On the contrary, the progress of the work is going very well because it is the Institution itself that is carrying it out.”
The La Paz Headquarters, UNAL’s ninth home in the country, is implementing the project that includes the construction of a building with classrooms, laboratories and wellness areas and whose objective is to strengthen the learning spaces fundamental for educational quality and research in various specialized areas of knowledge.
The project has a value of 80,333 million pesos, of which 56,000 million are financed with national resources through the Cesar-La Guajira Territorial Pact and 24,333 million pesos by UNAL. Construction began on February 19, 2023, and on March 10, the formal ceremony of laying the first stone took place, with the presence of the rector Dolly Montoya Castaño.
To date, 33.3% progress in the physical work has been completed and by the end of this year it is expected to reach 50% progress and complete the project 100% in December 2024.
“The project of stage I of phase II is an example of UNAL’s commitment to education and progress in the region, and represents one more step towards academic excellence and the comprehensive training of students,” emphasized the professor. Marcela Camacho, vice-rector of UNAL Headquarters in La Paz.
He also noted that “within the framework of the Global Development Plan 2022-2024 and the PLei 2034, the classroom-laboratory network is one of the most outstanding achievements and is aligned with the University’s mission to strengthen training, research, extension and social innovation, thus reinforcing the inter-site initiative, whose project is jointly carried out by the Headquarters of La Paz, Manizales and Bogotá.”
It is important to note that the Territorial Pacts are alliances that the departments establish with the Nation to consolidate projects of great impact in their regions and enhance their development, in which the Nation, the department and the municipalities contribute resources. The idea of this strategy is for territorial entities to be executors of these areas to reactivate the economy of their localities, in addition to generating employment, development and progress.
