Petro de Luanda is Champion for the 18th Time

News from Angola – Petro de Luanda became champions for the 18th time by beating Wiliete de Benguela 3-0, in the 29th round of the National Football Championship (Girabola’2023-24), played at the Stadium November 11th, in Luanda.

The “Tricolores” won the championship for the third time in a row (2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24).

The goals were scored by Julinho in the 7th minute and with a brace (two goals) from Brazilian striker Tiago Azulão in the 15th and 28th minutes (gp) of the first half.

Still in the first half, the “oil workers” created more chances to score through Jaredi and Gilberto “Gibelé”, who sent the ball to the Benguelenses post.

When the match resumed, the team led by Portuguese Alexandre Santos wasted a beautiful opportunity in the 88th minute by Guedes, shooting away in a one-on-one situation, while young Maya was there to assist him.

With this triumph, the “catetão” team scored 64 points, four more than Sagrada Esperança (second) with 60, while Desportivo da Lunda Sul (3rd/49 pts).

On the relegation list, Santa Rita de Cássia occupies 13th place with 23 points, União de Malanje in 14th, with 21, while Sporting de Cabinda is last in the general table, with 20 points.

Bernafa (Kabuscorp do Palanca) with 14 goals, Mussá (Desportivo da Lunda Sul), 14, Obed Mayamba (1.° de Agosto), Dabanda (Sagrada Esperança) and Tiago Azulão (Petro de Luanda) with 11 goals, are thus part of the list of the best scorers in the competition.

Petro de Luanda was founded on January 14, 1980.
