On the second day of the Dakar Rally, the athletes had to complete a speed stage of 463 kilometers.
In the motorcycle class the fastest was José Cornejo Florimo, who finished 8th in the Dakar Rally last year. Luciano Benavides lost to him in two and a half minutes in the 2nd stage. Yesterday’s winner Ross Branch remained in 11th place, losing more than 12 minutes to the leader.

In the general classification, Branch maintains first position. The second is Florimo (+2:55), and the third – Ricky Brabek (+7:15). Last year’s winner Kevin Benavides is currently only in 11th place (+23:50).
Results in the motorcycle class:
In the passenger car class throughout the stage, events on the track were dictated by veteran Stefans Peteransels (14 victories in the Dakar Rally), who lost to Sebastian Loeb by just 29 seconds at the finish line. It should be noted that at one point in the trip Loeb lost less than three minutes to Petersansel, but towards the end the Frenchman increased the pace and finished in 2nd place. In third place is Seth Quintero (+3:11), who last year won 2nd place in the T3 class, but this year the 21-year-old American will compete with the official Toyota Gazoo Racing team. The winner of the last two years, Nasser Al-Atiya (+6:28), finished in 4th place, even outside the Top 10 at the start of the stage.

It should be noted that Peteransel won his fiftieth victory in one of the speed stages of the Dakar Rally with the best time of the stage. He is now the record holder for stage winners together with Ari Vatanen.

Yesterday’s winner, Guillaume de Mevs, finished in 19th place on Sunday (+26:43).
Among the Lithuanians, the fastest is Vaidotas Žala, who finishes in 13th place (+23:19). At the 137 kilometer mark Žala only achieved 31st place in the strongest Ultimate class. Benediktas Vanagas took 23rd place (+32:42) in this stage, while rookie Vladas Jurkevičius finished 33rd (+41:31)!

Audi team driver Carlos Sainz is the leader of the general classification, less than two minutes behind the host Yazid Al-Raji, while Loeb is third, four minutes and 17 seconds behind. Despite two flat tires yesterday, Al-Attiyah is seventh overall, just 12 minutes behind. Žala is in 11th place, while Vanagas is in 17th. Jurkevičius is currently in 33rd place.
Results in the passenger car class:
in the Challenger class for the second day in a row the young Eriks Gocals remained undefeated, against whom Marek Gocals lost a minute. 8th place for the Lithuanian Rokas Baciuskas, and 11th position for Chris Meeks. In the general classification the first three places are occupied by Gocali, the leader Eriks, followed by his uncle Michals and the third father Mareks. Baciushka rose to 12th place, while Mīke occupies 14th place.

In the heavy vehicle class the fastest for the second consecutive stage was one of the favourites, Janus van Casteren, who in a fierce battle overtook by six seconds Ales Lopreis, who at one point in the stage lost five and a half minutes to the leader. After getting the third fastest time, Lithuania’s Vaidotas Paškevičius took second place, but later the crew stopped for a long time and lost a lot of time, falling to 26th place. In the aftermath Paškevičius drove at the pace of the leaders, but at the finish the leader had to lose an hour.
The overall leader is Janus van Kasteren, who is less than 13 minutes behind Lopreis. Paškevičius dropped to ninth place in the overall standings, losing an hour and 17 minutes to the leader.
Overall rating in the truck class:
In the quadricycle class in the 2nd stage, Brazilian Marcelo Medeiros was the fastest, who lost four and a half minutes to Juraj Varga. Lithuanian Laisvidas Kančus was fifth today (+44:11), but another Lithuanian, Antanas Kanopkinas, lost an hour and 23 minutes. In the general classification Kanchus is fifth and Kanopkinas sixth.
